How the Magic Began

Love of the incredible and wholesome goodness of sourdough is how it happened

My frustrations at the supermarket stem from the lack of real wholesome country-made food with just a few simple ingredients. When it comes to authentic sourdough bread, it is just not available. The options at the store are overpriced with a list of ingredients that look a science experiment. And you can barely read them. My personal mission aimed to change this and figure out to make it myself. Fast forward and the dream is to provide an absolutely satisfying dining experience at Sourdough Jamz.

I started my quest for the real sourdough bread I had only tasted rarely in my life but aimed to someday create. December of 2022 was when I mixed my first sourdough starter per the instructions in a short book on the topic years before. A starter is the biodynamic mixture of water, flour and magic that makes the bread that humans have been nourished by for millennia. I learned how to nurture this fledgling living colony  of wild yeast and bacteria that include the wondrous lacto-bacteria that are so important to many types of food preparation and preservation. With the help of Facebook sourdough groups and  videos watched via the Information Superhighway, I learned how to make real and tasty sourdough loaves.  The first loaf I baked was incredible and mostly devoured by me with only butter. It turns out my love of wholesome food and making it, was well suited to the complex yet simple process  of sourdough baking. It helps that cooking and preparing great food has always been a passion of mine. I quickly shared my bread with friends and family so they could experience its yummy magic. "MORE PLEASE," was the ubiquitous response. I realized I have to bring this healthy and simply crafted bread to Baker City and even beyond. Sourdough Jamz was envisioned.

Now it is happening. I will provide Baker City and eventually our Eastern Oregon Region with the opportunity to experience authentic sourdough bread paired perfectly with wholesome and tasty food for your family's health.
